Donatus and Margaret Seger’s eldest son, Leopold married Elizabeth Aulm, who was of Dutch descent and was born in 1862. They had 8 children: Gustave, Mary, Caroline, Minnie, Margaret, William, John Leopold (Sept 3,1893) and Frank Edward (1896).

For awhile, this new generation of the Seger family lived in a sod house. In his earlier years, Leopold farmed in Holt County. By 1885 he owned his land, tilling 20 acres with 140 acres untilled. He had a few implements and livestock along with two working oxen named “Buck” and “Bill” and one milk cow. Later in life, Leopold Seger operated a local cream station in Atkinson.

On Dec 1,1903 his wife, Elizabeth suddenly died of pneumonia. She was buried in the Atkinson cemetery.

Left with 8 children, Leopold married a widow two years later. Wilhelmina ‘Minnie’ Philomena (Weineberger) Steinhauser, born July 29,1862, in Vienna, Austria had five children of her own. Leopold and Minnie had one son.

Leopold finally had to close the cream station because of ill health and was bedfast for over a year. On Dec 20,1920 he died and was buried from the St Joseph Cathlic Church in Atkinson.

▪ Gustave “Gus” Seger married a Beckwith and is deceased.
▪ Mary Seger married Gus Styskal.
▪ Caroline “Carrie “ Seger married Mathew Mick and passed away in 1945.
▪ Minnie Seger married an Eckhoff.
▪ Margaret “Maggie” Seger married a Purnell.
▪ William “Bill” Seger married Eva Kelly.
▪ Frank Edward “Ed” married Viola C Osborn and passed away in 1966.

Soon after Leopold remarried, his seventh child, John Leopold left home, first going to live with neighbors and later finding work where he could. He continued working his way south of Atkinson until he arrived at the Stuart Township northwest of Atkinson. This was probably between 1909 and 1911. There he found work and stayed.
