Henry and Theresa Bose came to America from Germany in1880 with four children; John, Frank, Gertrude (Mrs Frank Kaup) and Elizabeth (Mrs Theo Wolff). It took 21 days to cross the Atlantic on a ship. They arrived in Alton, Ill where Mrs Henry Bose’s parents, The Willners, livd. Frank worked as a gardener and later they moved to a farm near West Point, Nebr. Henry and Theresa moved into town and retired while John stayed on the farm.
Frank was married to Mary Oligmueller in 1902. They moved to Polo, SD, where Frank cleared several acres of land of rocks. In SD Frank had a horrifying experience with coyotes. While hauling hogs, the coyotes followed so close to the wagon that Frank worried that they would attack the horses. Throughout his life,he often spoke of this experience.
About 1907 Frank moved to Stuart, Nebr and bought the Jim Murrow place which is now the Olberding farm.
Four children were born to Frank and his wife,
Harry, living in Sheldon, Iowa; Frank now deceased; Ludvina (Mrs Herb Lane) ofStuart and Agatha (Mrs S Philley) of Amarillo, Tex.
Frank lived on the farm for several years, during a bad flu epidemic. Frank and his oldest son,
Harry, went to the neighbors to do their chores for them. The family moved to town about 1918, during WWI. Frank bought out a drayline, which was a wagon and two horses. Then he was in business, hauling groceries, and other supplies from the train depot. When the trucks came out he bought a Model T Ford truck which wasn’t much larger than the wagon.
Frank also helped with the construction of St Boniface School and church by hauling supplies. His son,
Harry, started school in the old school house and still remembers the little old church there. Harry was in the first communion class in the new church in 1911. Inside work was still being done on the church at this time. In 1913 the old church was moved to Newport.
About 1910 Frank’s parents, Henry and Theresa moved from West Point to Stuart to be closer to their children, Frank and Gertrude (Mrs Frank Kaup)
In later years, Frank and Mary moved into the family house. After Frank quit the drayline, he started to paint and wallpaper until his retirement.
Frank was a restless man even in his retirement. He had a garden every year and also took care of the house work as his wife, Mary was sick in her last years.
In the 1960’s they moved to O’Neill to a retirement home where they lived for a few years. Frank was in Mary’s room everyday, feeding her and keeping her company. Mary died Jan 1965 at the age of 80. After Mary died, Frank felt he had nothing to do, so he just gave up. Frank died in Dec 1965 at the age of 87.
